TS vs. Vent - Your Opinion?
For PvE and PvP what do you think is best?
I don't think its needed for most PvE
For PvP, I think Vent is better, but thats just because TS doesn't work on my comp.
I have heard that Vent is better for advanced users and TS is better if you are newer.
I know XoO uses TS and Te and EviL use Vent.
What do you guys think?

vent is clearer and has less lag. this really isnt even an issue. if anyone were to try them both out, vent is obviously the better choice. the only reason why anyone would ever use ts is when they want a private server and cant acquire a private vent.

For me they both have the same sound quality and neither causes lag spike issues.
They are both great so it is really just what interface you like best.

If you dont have a password vent is far better. Not having some one come in and yell "AMERICA RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO YEAH!". Also on Vent when some one comes in it says their name.
SOOOOOOOOOo Vent > TS
P.S. Sorry for the "F-Word" givin for authenticy.

Why have TS and no password? You are just asking to have someone do stupid stuff like that.

I have a guildie that runs a TS server off of his home PC so I don't have to worry about that.

Push to talk is necessary if you listen to music and you don't use a headset for that. It take 2 min of configuring the right level for vent and mp3 or whatever player
My other temopary solution was Vent configured for a secondary sound card i plugged my heaset into and music playing on primary card using 5.1 speakers. Althou i had issues with hearing the music.
For me TS or vent is just the same.

I think they're both fine, though I prefer the interface for TS by far. In ventrillo, everyone sounds like they're whispering or talking really quietly all the time for some reason. Not as far as volume, but sound quality.

Those bindings on some vent servers are damn handy..are those available on TS too? These days, the bulk of the HA groups I play with use vent, although in the past I felt obliged to leave parties as I couldn't figure out how to use the damn thing. How the hell was I to know that 'sb vent' meant 'gw-vent.com?'

Vent because I can clearly hear people's voices than TS which you can have the volume at maximum and the people still can't hear you. I use TS though when no one has vent because of it's public servers. I know Vent has one but I forgot what the address was.

I prefer vent, IMO the sound quality is much better. However, I use TS more often because it's more popular, and much more user friendly.

Both are actually pretty much the same in regards to quality and lag.
Quality is determined by the codec which they share some of the most common one.
Lag is based on your host server.
Interface wise is the difference. At that level, it is more of personal choice.
Either one - a personal server is the best route.

Many people will choose TS over Vent because of the 24 person free servers. By free servers I mean the ones running off of your home computer. Vent has only an 8 person personal server. On these personal servers you can't change the codec (at least I think you can), and its a low quality one. Low quality + few people = Decent. Low quality + tons of people = ASDCVAJEKLJGKLDFXCGJAEFKLGJ.

Vent has better sound quality, but if you don't want to be forced to use professional hosting services or a laggy public server, go for TS.
The "free" Vent server you can download from their page is nothing but a demo program. 8 slots - that's laughable. And they don't even SELL you licenses to set up your own server, they FORCE you to buy hosting services. I can't really say I like that business model.
With Teamspeak you can still set up your own server with 100 slots for free - that's enough for most guilds out there. And if you actually take the time to CONFIGURE that server, the sound quality is good enough and it won't lag much, too.
I will use Vent only when I am forced to, such in a HA PUG which insists on it - especially because it makes me change my operating system, since there is STILL no Vent client for Linux.
Thinking about it, I really wonder why Vent is so popular...
